Description
B&W DM601 S2s in lovely condition, almost unmarked. These were my home monitors till they were replaced with Neumann KH120s
The balance of the 601 is virtually identical to the Neumanns – so much so it was a surprise to me. The Neumanns have more depth and are capable of higher levels with more bass output, but the 601s are remarkably cohesive and easy to work with
I picked the 610s after a listening test of nearly every pair of speakers in the shop – to my mind they had the best balance of all, had a top end that was very listenable, and were capable of throwing a 3D sonic image. For the price I don’t think there are better small hifi speakers
I recommend a good amp to drive these. I used a Quad 405 and a Yamaha PC 1602 at different times and the B&Ws were quite capable of showing up differences between the amplifiers
Product of the year 1999 – What Hi-Fi magazine
The Series 2 version of the B&W DM602 speakers… proved brilliant value for money, not least in terms of sheer cabinet size. That large box means plenty of bass, alongside a transparent and detailed midrange (OK, and a slightly forward treble). The DM602s were consistent performers over the years but it was the Series 2 and Series 3 models that really took them to the next level – What Hifi
I have a pair of tall Atacama stands suitable for the B&Ws
