Description

The Really Nice Levelling Amplifier is the characterful sidekick to the RNC. Like its more reserved brother, the RNLA is a true-stereo compressor with traditional threshold, ratio and attack / release controls and an accessible sidechain for external keying & pumping or EQ insertion. But, unlike the RNC, the RNLA has tons of character and its own sound

On a bells & whistles-per-pound-Sterling basis, FMR compressors are outgunned by cheap gear offering dubious noise gates, spurious clipping limiters and Blackpool Illuminations flashing lights. But FMR builds tools, not toys, and the RNC and RNLA are better than anything in their price range

The RNLA uses a microprocessor to control gain reduction & manage the compressor functions. This approach gives great control over how gain reduction is managed. As with the RNC, the RNLA has Normal and Super Nice compression modes, but the RNLA adds a Log Release function to give faster release times for more overt compression

“The RNLA500 imparts a wonderfully thick-sounding smoothness to the audio signal, and feels less aggressive”

“at higher levels of compression, it imparted a pleasant thickness and roundness to the sound”

“It is difficult to find any fault with the RNLA. It’s designed amazingly well and sounds great. Even the documentation is well written and helpful”

“incredible value with an adequate build, a thoughtful design, useful features and that ever-elusive quality: a ‘sound'”

“Unlike his brother the RNC 1773, the sound is much more colorful on the RNLA. We get it very quickly the distortion, but the purpose of this machine”

“There’s ‘character’ to spare, and as a parallel drum or bass compressor I found the RNLA to be quite interesting. As a vocal tamer the RNLA does offer that syrupy style of compression that’s been used for decades”

“The RNLA is darker, and a little more obvious than the RNC. Great on drums, and it can sound great when you drive it just a little too hard. But I don’t get the same magic, “aha!” moments from the RNLA that I get from the RNC. I also think the strength of the RNLA – it’s colour – is also it’s weakness, because it makes it less versatile”

This RNLA is excellent used condition, almost unmarked. Supplied complete with external power supply. Tested & working 100%. Photos show an RNLA sold previously. This is a later RNLA with the black knobs
