Vintage compressor, model CB9146, from Trident Audio Developments, aka Triad. Originally based at Shepperton Studios, Trident was – and is – famous for their mixing consoles, particularly the legendary A Range
This is a FET-based compressor capable of super-fast attack & release times. It sounds subtle and smooth at lower ratios with sensible attack settings but higher ratios turn it into a bit of an animal. It’s possible to reduce snare drums to tight little pings, or pump room sound quite dramatically
This is exactly what I hoped for – a dramatic compressor in the same bracket as the early Audio & Design compressor / limiters
The compressor has the same fluted aluminium knobs as the Trident Fleximix and other Trident consoles of the late 70s, illuminated meters – switchable between output level and gain reduction – and an internal power supply
Refurbished in our workshops with a revised & recapped power supply. The audio boards use tantalum capacitors exclusively. Case repainted. Supplied with the original Trident manual including alignment instructions & schematics
