Description
Quirky UK-made synth module from the 1990s. Refurbished in our workshops with a replacement backup battery and a new external UK 9 Volt power supply. EU or US power supply on request
The EVS-1 is a multitimbral, polyphonic module that was ahead of its time. It includes many usable synth sounds plus drum samples. It’s easy to allocate midi channels to sounds & play multiple sounds imultaneously
The interface looks cryptic but is actually very straightforward. It has Bank and Utility modes: Bank for setting sounds, midi channels & etc and Utility for Sysex, controllers, pitch bend and the like
There’s a surprisng amount of info & help online – see the Links tab for more. The Muzines page has an in-depth review
“The EVS1’s sound generation system is digital, and generates 16-bit sounds with a 44.1kHz sampling rate. It includes 32 different stored waveforms which can be used in a number of ways. There are lots of immediately useable sounds here, including electric pianos, organs, gut guitars, analogue basses, chorus pads and just plain fat analogue brass, string and synth stuff.
There’s a fair smattering of sweeps, combination sounds and arpeggio effects with a few sound effects thrown in, along with several sounds which defy description. It has 4 6-stage envelopes and 2 LFOs which can be freely routed to control almost any parameter of the synth engine including the LFOs and envelopes themselves.
The fundamental part of this synth is the 28 synthesis algorithms. This allows the EVS-1 to do 4-operator FM, 4-operator Phase Distortion (presumably modeled after Casio’s CZ synths), wavetable synthesis (like the PPG Wave), and various other algorithms combining the already mentioned algorithms and adding waveshapers and feedback and other madness.”
In excellent used condition with minor case marks. Tested & working 100%. Photos show the synth for sale
