Sony F1 digital recording system

Description

This is an early digital recording system designed & built by Sony in the 1980s. The F1 uses a Betamax recorder with a dedicated digital processor to create a very high-spec digital system

F1 predates DAT by a few years, and postdates the professional 1610 system that used U-Matic recorders. It’s a professional system on a domestic budget – something that made it super-successful for a brief time in the 1980s

The F1 system is based on a portable recorder and creates a complete portable digital audio recording system. It includes battery packs, chargers, a TV tuner – and a video camera

Unused since the 1990s, this system is untested and sold as-is but worked fine when last used

The system comprises:

  • PCM-F1 AD/DA Digital Audio Processor
  • TT-F1 Tuner Timer
  • AC 700 AC power adaptor
  • Battery charger
  • Colour Camera
