The Gates Solid Statesman is a super-fast FET limiter designed for use in a broadcast chain. It’s purpose is to catch & limit transients that would overload & over-modulate a transmitter

As standard it has an attack time of microseconds and a release time of 3-5 seconds. This might work well in a broadcast scenario but it’s useless as a studio compressor. Our modifications reduce the release time dramatically, making it capable of savage limiting for drum ambience & etc.

The original release time has three fixed release times of slow, very slow and glacial. Our mods make the release time variable and has three ranges: super-fast, fast and medium

Other mods include

• Switching to 220 Volt operation
• Fitment of XLR connectors
• Recapping the power supply
• Recapping the various circuit boards
• Cleaning & lubricating the switches & pots
• Fitting a new release time pot
