One of my favourite little compressors, the Micro Limiter is a surprisingly useful piece of kit. It’s a variable-ratio device, with compression ratios starting at 2:1, rising to 16:1 dependent on input level
With small amounts of gain reduction the Micro Limiter sounds fine and stays pretty neutral till you start abusing it. At that point, with large amounts of gain reduction, it comes alive. It works like magic on drums, the sound getting more and more dense with increasing input level
I loved the effect, but reasoned it could be improved. After recapping, and beefing up the power supply, I played with release times till I found component values that allowed a super-fast release but still gave a usable range of release times
I have two or three modified Micro Limiters in stock now, ready to ship
