The Compellor is an unusual beast – a combined leveller, compressor & peak limiter. The leveller has a long time constant to allow it to smooth out varying signal levels, while the faster-acting compressor works on more sudden transients. The balance between the two actions is set by the Process balance control
The Compellor is designed to be audibly unintrusive & transparent and it does this extremely well. Most of the time it’s impossible to tell how it’s doing what it’s doing. It’s ideal for glueing together backing vocals, keyboards or complete mixes
It’s an analogue problem-solver that deserves to be much better-known
