Dave Smith Mopho

Dave Smith has something of a CV: founder of Sequential Circuits, he designed the Prophet 5 – the world’s first microprocessor-controlled synth and first programmable polyphonic synth – co-created the midi standard and worked for Yamaha and Korg before creating the world’s first software synthesiser

The Mopho is based on a single voice from the Prophet ’08 synth. It’s in a neat desktop package with four soft controllers and there are free software editors available. Sonically it covers lots of ground, from Wave-style aggressive patches through to warm pads. The provision of an audio input allows external audio to be treated, or the audio output can be be fed back into the input for creative distortion & feedback tones
