Expansion boards for the JV-1010 are here
The JV-1010 is a successor to the legendary JV-1080, the synth used on more recordings than any other. It’s a 1/2U module with all the sounds from the JV-2080 plus the sounds from the Session expansion module. According to Sound on Sound:
“It might not be much to look at, but the JV1010 is a sonic gold mine. Some of Roland’s vocal patches are a bit on the cheesy side, but there are some pretty good ones in there too, and when it comes to warm pads, bright bells, silky strings, sexy saxes, dance stabs or ‘big’ synth sounds, the JV1010 is up there with the best of them”
The JV-1010 is a half-width rackmount synth in the later Roland style with a black, brushed aluminium front panel, prominent blue & white lettering, rotary encoder for patch editing, rotary part and category / bank switches plus a headphone socket with volume control. In the usual JV style, pushing the volume control plays a phrase from the selected sound. The synth has one stereo output and onboard chorus, reverb & EFX effects. The effects can be enabled on a per-voice basis and stored as part of a preset
“The compact JV-1010 offers the professional sounds of the acclaimed JV-2080 at an incredibly affordable price. It also includes all the sounds from the “Session” expansion board – including Roland’s most popular stereo grand piano – and an expansion slot to give users access to the incomparable SR-JV80-Series sound library.”
The JV-1010 includes all the sounds from the Session expansion card so has 895 presets as opposed to 640 for the JV-1080. The JV-1010 has 64-note polyphony and an expansion slot so is a very space-efficient way to add sounds to your rack setup
The main differences between the JV-1010 (in this auction), JV-1080, JV-2080 and later models are summarised in this table
