The Model 2489 is from the SPL range of monitor controllers. It has four inputs and two sets of speaker outputs plus monitor level control, mono, dim and mute for the monitor signal. Inputs & outputs are balanced
The Model 2489 also handles multichannel monitoring up to 5.1. It has two sets of 5.1 inputs – one via jack sockets and the other via a D-Sub connector. This allows for two sets of speakers to be connected – one stereo and one multichannel – and to switch between them. The multichannel output can alternatively be used for a second set of stereo speakers
As usual with SPL equipment, audio quality is excellent and the electronic specifications are beyond reproach. The main monitor pot is a custom Alps multichannel plastic potentiometer. Spares are available
When choosing a monitor controller it’s vital to pick one with a clean monitor path which colours the sound as little as possible. SPL specialises in super-clean signal paths and the sonic footprint of the model 2489 is minimal
